Orbit Xplorer - Orbit Simulator for Windows
Review by on
One question comes to mind: who would benefit from the functionality the Ottisoft-developed application Orbit Explorer provides? According to the developer, the application is perfectly suited from high school, college and university students and teachers. But it is not limited to students and teachers alone – anyone with an interest in physics and astronomy could get the application and put it through its paces.

Speaking of which, you should know that Orbit Explorer weighs in at some 6MB – shouldn’t take too long to get the application off the web and onto your computer if you’re on a high-speed internet connection. Should take long to get it up and running, since installing Orbit Explorer is a straightforward, smooth process that goes along quite rapidly.

One other question comes to mind: what sort of functionality does Orbit Xplorer provide? In other words, what does it do? In a nutshell, Orbit Xplorer is an orbit simulator. It will come in handy if you have to solve problems involving orbits, satellites, planets or stars - Orbit Xplorer will simulate the problem and give you a numerical output.

Here are some Orbit Xplorer features so you can get a better idea of what it can do:
- Calculate and plot the orbits of up to 10 gravitationally interacting bodies
- Create, run, save and print your own orbit simulation
- View speed and acceleration vectors
- Orbit Xplorer comes with 30 premade simulations which you may modify as you like. You can run up to 4 simulations at the same time.
- Create graphs of distance, velocity, acceleration and energy versus time

Pros
  • Comes with 30 premade simulations
  • Run up to 4 simulations at the same time
  • Calculate and plot the orbits of up to 10 gravitationally interacting bodies
  • Use actual pictures of planets

Cons
  • Trial version is limited: you can only run one simulation at a time, for 20 seconds; the Print function is disabled.
